Welcome to the College of Education & Human Services

On behalf of the administration, faculty, staff, and students of the College of Education and Human Services, I welcome you to our website. As you explore its pages, I hope you will discover why we are proud of our college and excited about its future.

We are proud….

To have been fully re-accredited by NCATE (National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education) during 2009-2010;

Of a talented faculty who consider student learning to be a top priority, engage in quality research, publish in top journals, generate millions of dollars in grants, and produce an enviable number of Fulbright Scholars;

Of the high pass rates of our teacher and administrative license candidates on their Praxis II qualifying examinations;

Of offering a wide variety of high quality school based and community/commercial based undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral programs;

Of our over 50 partnerships with schools and organizations in the Cleveland area;

Of being selected as the site of a Confucius Institute to promote the use of the Chinese language and appreciation of Chinese culture as well as economic development in Ohio

Of a diverse faculty, staff, and student body;

Of our collaborative spirit;

….and more

We are excited about….

A brand new building – Julka hall – that houses our college and the School of Nursing. Named for Bill Julka to honor his $6 million contribution to the University, and to be officially dedicated in October, 2010, Julka Hall serves as the eastern gateway to the campus and was designed for maximum collaboration, community, and transparency. The building includes a three story atrium, state of the art technology, special nursing teaching classrooms, math and science labs, a Community Learning Center where Cleveland school children receive valuable tutoring, and “collaboration spaces” spread throughout. In addition, the building was designed to qualify for Silver Leeds Certification based on its sustainability features;

Our new Campus International School right up the street from our college which officially opened on August 19 with 120 students, Kindergarten through second grade. A collaboration of Cleveland State University and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, the school will follow the academically rigorous International Baccalaureate curriculum for its students, while providing unique training and research opportunities for Cleveland State students and faculty. Eventually the CIS will house grades K-12 in a larger building at a new site;

New programs, including: (1) CSUTeach, a four-year, field-based program to prepare secondary math and science teachers; (2) Chinese Teaching Licensure, a master’s program to prepare teachers of Mandarin Chinese. …and more.

Thank you for visiting our website. I encourage you to share our pride and excitement in person as a student or visitor. See you soon!

Sajit Zachariah, Dean
